Doesn't anyone check these things before they post.

Try it on FreeBSD's more, which is derived from less.  It works.
Back/forward work.

> b

Works for me.

Did you try this on the 'more' in FreeBSD?  Your previous example works
on my box (2.2.6), so 8-bit characters might even work. :)
