My suggestion is to use mencoder's lavc, setting vcodec=wmv1 or wmv2.
You'll need the win32 codecs installed..  I'd also try rv10 (RealVideo).
Obviously make sure it's encapsulated into an AVI container, but I know of
no other containers which support windoze media.
