Try doing a FRESH 4.5-RELEASE install, including the XF86 3.3.x stuff,
then cvsup/build 4.5-STABLE, then update /etc/make.conf to set XFree
version to 4, then cd /usr/ports/x11/XFree86-4, and make. 

It *WILL* die.
