I also tried to get Savage 3D to work a while ago. Never did. This is not
a flaw with FreeBSD though. I think the problem is with XFree86, which
requires a bit of mussing for those 3d cards. Perhaps your linux
distro's installer accounted for that. If you're really serious
about getting x windows to work, go try the XFree86 FAQs...
