The latter (this is a lot of work to fix; krion tried recently but I
think he gave up).  You need to make the port use that switch by
default when OPTIONS is not read, e.g.

OPTIONS=3Dfoo on

# Check if the user changed the default to off

=2E..
=2Eendif
