Errors should just go to standard error, which is by default your
screen. If you want to build a port and redirect the output to a file
(recommended if you are having problems building a port and need a good
log) you can try this:

make >& /tmp/makeport.log           (C Shell)

or

make > /tmp/makeport.log 2>&1 &     (Bourne Shell)

Then you can do a `tail -F /tmp/makeport.log` to check on its progress.
