Please read /usr/src/UPDATING :

20011203:
        The procfs pseudo-filesystem has now been converted to use the
        pseudofs framework.  If you have 'options PROCFS' in your
        kernel config, you'll need to add 'options PSEUDOFS' if it's
        not there already.
