Here's an idea... I had a similar problem with a DTC 2278EB....
I'm not sure if this fix will work for you, but it did for my EIDE 
controller card.

Go into the CMOS if you haven't already and set all the hard drives to not
installed.  Try booting up FreeBSD now....  If it comes up, then it's the
controller.  If so, you will probably be able to boot up freebsd and
install, but not boot up with the regular booteasy type loader.... You'll
probably need the fbsdboot.exe program.
