Linus,

Could you please be so kind and help a total novice
trying to setup a linux system for the first time?

New machine, no software installed.
Two Seagate 4.3Gb HDs
Intel N440BX Mother Board with SYM53C876 controller on board
Boots from DOS, can run fdisk.
Boots Slackware Linux from CD-ROM

When I try to run fdisk, I receive the message

Unable to open /dev/sda

???
