I haven't heard of any major failures with them, so they should work, even
in UDMA mode.

Can't sync?  Never heard of that .. check permissions on /dev/cuaaX.

Are you trying to dial up for PPP?  If so, use 'ppp' instead and check the
Handbook.  The 'tip' way of doing things is a pain in the tail.  If you
need to direct connect to a modem use:

cu -l /dev/cuaaX -s [baudrate]
