I have an Asus K8V SE DLX (VIA K8T800) motherboard with an Athlon64 cpu and am trying to set up a 2 disk raid on it's builtin promise PDC20378 raid controller. MS Windows XP see & installs on this raid setup fine, but FreeBSD 5.2.1 release doesn't seem to see the second disk (another 40gb Maxtor 6E040L0) in the raid properly, ie "disk1 DOWN no device found for this disk". seemingly relevant part of dmesg below: ar: FreeBSD check1 failed ata4-master: pio=0x0c wdma=0x22 udma=0x46 cable=40pin ata4-master: setting PIO4 on Promise PDC20378 chip ata4-master: setting UDMA133 on Promise PDC20378 chip GEOM: create disk ad8 dp=0xffffff003c9790a0 ad8: <Maxtor 6E040L0/NAR61590> ATA-7 disk at ata4-master ad8: 39205MB (80293248 sectors), 79656 C, 16 H, 63 S, 512 B ad8: 16 secs/int, 1 depth queue, UDMA133 lun 0 magic_0 0x00000000 magic_1 0x00000000 flags 0x1101 1101<PROMISE,READY,RAID0> total_disks 2 generation 1 width 2 heads 255 sectors 63 cylinders 9996 total_sectors 160586240 interleave 128 reserved 63 offset 0 disk 0: flags = 0x0b b<ONLINE,ASSIGNED,PRESENT> ad8 sectors 80293185 disk 1: flags = 0x0a a<ONLINE,ASSIGNED> sectors 0 ar0: ERROR - array broken GEOM: create disk ar0 dp=0xffffff003c8e4670 ar0: 78411MB <ATA RAID0 array> [9996/255/63] status: BROKEN subdisks: disk0 READY on ad8 at ata4-master disk1 DOWN no device found for this disk Any suggestions? anyone else using this hardware with sucess ?
