You should be able to type the following as root. Allthough I am no expert
on this subject, sh MAKEDEV all should rebuild the list of devices.

From my box.
alpha# cd /dev
alpha# sh MAKEDEV all

On my box, I only show 859. But I do have a few options in the kernel for
devices that dont exist. Such as a floppy drive, etc. That may help. I hope
so.
