You *may* have better luck with AMD(over Cyrix) since you're 
considering alternatives to Intel.  Moreover, with Cyrix, you may
need to be more selective over which motherboard you choose.

They are well supported.  I use UNICOM's variant @ $19U.S. but
there are many others.
