xf86-video-ati 6.8.0 was announced:

I think the most important enhancement is many (all?) RadeonHD 
chipsets are supported via ATOMBIOS, i.e., no need for 
xf86-video-radeonhd.  At least it works quite well with my laptop.  A 
simple patch for ports is attached. ;-)
