the MSDOS files system in 2.2.7-RELEASE does work with with FAT32.

If you want to prevent accident removal of MSDOS files, you can always
mount the MSDOS filesystem read-only. The MSDOS routines have been running
here for a few months (first as a patch to 2.2.6) and I am very happy with
its operation.
