Seems this is not the case.

You have to load storage related modules (disk controller, cam, geom
classes required to taste disks), for example, to boot MINIMAL in a
VMWare VM with scsi attached, GPT partionned disk :
- cam.ko
- mpt.ko
- geom_part_gpt.ko
