See another post from me. wu-ftpd tries to use system calls which
would open the file /etc/spwd.db to get user informations. In a 
chroot enviroment (as done with anonymous-root) it can't access
the real /etc/spwd.db. You will need a "fake" file in your /etc in
your anonymous ftp structure. I usual used just a minimal set,
which included the ftp user and no passwords (* instead).
