Steven, 3.5 was before a lot of the laptop stuff was fully integrated into FreeBSD. While moving drivers back to 3.5 MIGHT work, I think your best chance is to upgrade to 4.3-Release. Many more cards are supported under this release and the functionality of the overall pccard support is vastly improved. In about week 4.4 should be released and it's pccard support is vastly better in may regards, especially in the sharing of IRQs which are often in very short supply on laptops. If you get into really gnarly problems with PCMCIA cards, check the archives of the freebsd-mobile list.
