This question was the basis for a useful thread a week ago: googling or=20=

sifting through the archives should turn up some useful information.

I think every variant of UNIX supports this with ifconfig: something=20
like this (depending on your interface device name).

[/usr/home/paul]:: ifconfig xl1 192.168.2.100 up
