I got the new boot floppies from /pub/FreeBSD/2.0.5-ALPHA/UPDATE, and tried
installing on the machine on my desk. After going through and not being
completely sure how it was going to deal with my existing partitions (I
wasn't really sure what I was supposed to do at the disklabel editing
screen; was I supposed to tell it to newfs / and /usr?...), I set the FTP
options to username "fenner@ftp.freebsd.org", password "fenner@", and chose
the FTP install method. After selecting "other" and typing in
"ftp://beta.xerox.com:4514/pub/FreeBSD/2.0.5-ALPHA" as the URL, it mounted
and newfs'd my old filesystems and then brought up a dialog that says

Invalid URL (`') passed to FTP routines!
(must start with `ftp://')
---------------------------------(100%)-
          EXIT

I hit enter, and it brought up another dialog:

Invalid URL (`^A') passed to FTP routines!
(must start with `ftp://')
---------------------------------(100%)-
          EXIT

I hit enter, and it said that the installation completed successfully.

I tried again, after going through the media selection again just in case,
and got different garbage:

Invalid URL (`it from how eA/'wish^A') passed to FTP routines!
(must start with `ftp://')
---------------------------------------------------------(100%)-
          EXIT

and then installation completed successfully (note only one Invalid URL
dialog box this time, not two.)

I also had a hard time finding the "options" menu; I had forgotten that
the install menu was not the root menu and was actually a sub-menu of
the "welcome" menu. Perhaps the "FTP options" menu should be located
closer to the FTP install option?

It's also hard to tell what the current value is when going back to the
"FTP options" menu; perhaps a set of radio buttons for the first three
options (which seem to be mutually exclusive) and checkboxes for the
last two?

When I go back to the FTP options menu, and pick "set FTP user and password"
again, it asks for the username, and prompts me with a default value of
the password I had previously selected -- it looks like both the username
and the password got set to the password that I entered. (I typed in
username "anonymous@ftp.freebsd.org", password "fenner@", but when I came
back the default for username was "fenner@".)

About the "Installation Options" -- it seems like most of these things
should be checkboxes, not menu items. For example, to make sure that
the extra debugging flag is on when you don't know the state, it looks
like you need to select "No debugging" and then "Toggle debugging" --
a checkbox makes lots more sense.

The "language selection" menu should probably come up with the
currently-selected language highlighted, not "danish", since if I
go there and hit enter by mistake I will suddenly start getting Danish
instructions =)

I very much liked the fact that the network setup screen remembered
my previous answers, unlike the SNAP install. That helps a lot!

  Bill
