Often these repeat and several machines go in a row, which look a bit like it could be initiated from user level (>3000 users can access the machines, so it might be that someone found a kill-freebsd-o-matic). I think this happens much less frequently in closed servers. checkalias seem to refer lots of things without checking them for being NULL.
