Just thought I'd pass on a partial solution (kind of) to a problem I and
some others have mentioned regarding sound using the ESS1868 card.
Basically the problem is that sound only comes out of one speaker (the
right one).

Well, I just built kdemultimedia 1.0pre2-1 (from ports of course) which
includes a whole bunch of sound stuff. It has in it this little program
called Mixer Panel. So I was playing around with it while my CD was
playing and when I moved the slider below the green triangle icon thingie,
BOOM, sound out of both speakers. :) I don't know why this works or how.

Was using workman to play the CD at the time, if it has any relevance.
