Hi,

I can add something to this discussion.  They've claimed the
architecture of their initial Linux boxes should be more or less
industry standard so yes, I would think FreeBSD (or anything else)
should run on them too (not that you'd want to pay the extra charge for
bundling Linux with it).  This is unlike their 320s (and others?) which
have an improved PC memory architecture and require a special NT kernel,
and would no doubt require some Linux/BSD kernel changes for it to work.

We had a guy from SGI at our company talking about these new Linux
boxes, and I asked if they were considering looking at BSD at all (with
the usual mention of some of the merits of BSD vs. GPL licensing).  He
brushed me off immediately with a "No, we're not at all interested in
looking at BSD."  More evidence, methinks, that this is just as much a
popularity contest for a flailing company as a technical one ;-).
