I was getting similar errors until I turned on ATAPI DMA in the kernel.
Does your DMESG show something like:

acd0: CDROM <CD-ROM 48X/AKU> at ata1-master using PIO4
acd1: CD-RW <CRW6206A> at ata1-slave using WDMA2
