Whats your ISP ? I am on Blueyonder and this works fine for me. The thing
to do is to not change your NIC's though - even if you have registered the
new ones. Use one NIC, and one machine to act as a gateway if you want
several boxes connected.

I keep a small Win2K partition on the BSD box for any visits by the Telewest
engineers, but my Ip address hasnt chnaged since I first signed up
to the service. All works very nicely.
