Do you confirm that, if you boot without loading > radeonkms, X fails to load the kernel module and reports no screen found? > Jean-Sébastien: yes, I can confirm that in my case, with a fresh install of 10.1-RELEASE, xorg from ports or packages, and an HD-5450, the module is not loaded during the boot process nor when calling X. This, from the OP, when issuing <Xorg -configure>: [ 2160.756] (II) [KMS] No DRICreatePCIBusID symbol, no kernel modesetting. [ 2160.756] Segmentation fault at address 0x0 When not using <Xorg -configure> and just issuing a <startx>, then I would get the error "No screens found." Only manually loading the module works (either before or after boot).
