I came across this problem recently and it turned out to be, believe it or
not, a DNS problem. As I was running named on the the box in question I
simply removed the nameserver line in the resolv.conf file, forcing it to
use the localhost for DNS, and bingo it jumped into life. This may not be
the most elegant fix but it got me out of a hole at the time. Maybe an entry
in the hosts file might keep it happy until you can get access to a
namrserver. I assume it is trying to resolve the names of the addresses used
on the interface. Someone else maybe able to shed some more light on this.
