A work to switch to a new version is not finished. At -CURRENT you may
try to use linux kernel version 2.6.16.

Mostly for historical reasons. At first it was Red Hat. Then Fedora
(sometimes) Core. But you know anyone (maybe you?) may change the
status-quo. ;-)
