 Ouch.  This doesn't sound too good.  Try booting single user and
 then manually "fsck" ing your disks... to do this when the 

 boot:

 prompt comes up type "-s"

 this should get you a basic single user shell.  check the contents
 of /etc/fstab (ie type "cat /etc/fstab") and see if its all correct...
 then try "fsck" to clean the filesystems...

 if this succeeds try "exit" to go multiuser...

 you might need to boot also with the "-c" configure option and
 disable all devices you are not using..
