The ahc driver supports the AIC7870 chipset. The ahc driver has been
in the installation system since 3.0.

In other words, if everything is configured properly, you should be
able to install directly from the CD. Check your BIOS settings - PNP
off, drive mappings, etc. - and check device drivers in the kernel
configuration part of the install process.
