I always read my DOS-partitions with the mtools (too many disk crashes because
of the lousy dos-mount-support) and they are really fine to read & write
VFAT. I use the foolowing version:

Mtools version 3.6, dated 14 Apr 97

I think there is a newer one at this time but you need at least 3.6 to
get VFAT to work.
