You should always use the most general email address that will
work.  If rwhite@montana.edu works, use that.  When you specify 
subdomains and machine names you're counting on network topology
you don't have any control over to remain the same.  The bigger 
the network the less likely this is to be true.

Now this doesn't explain problems mailing to majordomo@freebsd.org
so send an example bounce from that.
