Jumping in a bit late here.  I've got some piece of obsolete hardware
where i can make a fair comparision if you want.  (386/16, 5-year old
ST1144A IDE drive vs. a nifty but flakey MXT-1280 SCSI drive hanging
on an AHA-1540A.)
