Since no one answered you, I'll tell you what I can.... The FreeBSD boot manager does multiple OSes. Also, there is OS-BS in the "tools" directory on the CD. A basic FreeBSD installation will install in aprox 300 megs without X and about 500 with X. So, you could leave your HPFS partition.
