I see something similar when I try my 3CXEM556 (not a B) card.  And my
562/563 card, so I'm thinking that the driver needs some work to
support these cards.

BTW, http://people.freebsd.org/~imp/CardStatus.html gives the latest
status for NEWCARD.  I know that you were asking about OLDCARD on
-stable, but the above link is the results of my testing my personal
collection of pc cards and CardBus cards.
