I am having the same problem updating yesterday to Jan 5th -current sources
from a Nov 25 kernel.   The old kernel boots and mounts find, the Jan 5th
kernel does not.  The way mountroot fails hints that it's just probably
looking in the wrong place.

lsdev from the bootloader finds the filesystem and I can
boot /boot/kernel.old/kernel from here.  But the mountroot fallback cannot
find the slice.
