All this sounds very good, but was unclear from your commit message.  I
guess I would have preferred something more like:

  MFC if_bfe from 5-CURRENT as it appears to work fine in our test
  environment.  There have been some reports of occasional hangs in the
  -CURRENT version, which may have been inherited in -STABLE, but I have
  been unable to reproduce this.
