Hi. FreeBSD Version: 4.4-RC FreeBSD Vintage: 5 Sep 2001 Hardware query : HPT370-based RAID controller I installed FreeBSD on a system where the the drives attached to the RAID controller are configured in a mirror. The system installs, boots and operates correctly, but when I tested a disk failure by removing power to a disk, the system appears to hang, and complains about ar0 losing a subdisk. I then rebooted the machine, and the system panics, because it is unable to mount root on ar0s1a. This sounds like broken behaviour. Is the only way to carry on using the system by adding in an additional disk, rebuilding the RAID and then carrying on as normal ? dmesg shows: atapci0: <HighPoint HPT370 ATA100 controller> port 0xd800-0xd8ff,0xdfe0-0xdfe3,0xdfa8-0xdfaf,0xdfe4-0xdfe7,0xdff0-0xd ff7 irq 9 at device 9.0 on pci1 ar0: 29319MB <ATA RAID1 array> [3737/255/63] subdisks: ad4: 29319MB <FUJITSU MPG3307AH E> [59570/16/63] at ata2-master UDMA100 ad6: 29319MB <FUJITSU MPG3307AH E> [59570/16/63] at ata3-master UDMA100 Mounting root from ufs:/dev/ar0s1a Khetan Gajjar. --- khetan@za.uu.net * Direct -> +27 21 658 8723 UUNET South Africa * Mobile -> +27 82 416 0105 http://www.za.uu.net * CSC -> 08600 UUNET (88638) Systems Team * PGP Key -> kg+pgp@za.uu.net To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-questions" in the body of the message
