Could this be considered roughly similar to selecting the
'interruptable' kernel configuration in linux?

Second dumb question:  is this of importance only for SMP
machines, or does it affect uni-processors also?

I'm sure you can tell from the questions that I'm not a
kernel hacker, so use small words :o)
