You did not configure /dev/sysmouse. /dev/mouse is a Linuxism, it's not
used on BSD systems.

To enable mouse support,
- /stand/sysinstall -> Configure -> mouse
Make sure the mouse works in text mode before you configure X.

- Configure your X with /dev/sysmouse as mouse device.
