Kernel old was the kernel you where using prior to the rebuild
did you try rebooting with kernel.old?
So try 0:wd(3,a)/kernel.old
then remake your kernel also copy the kernel old to kernel.prev
or something just incase the new recompile doesn't work you will
have something you can boot from. becuse the compile will move that kernel
to kernel.old over writing your kernel.old.
That is odd that the kernel.GENERIC will not boot.
