getaddrinfo() has worked fine here for several months, though I have
only used it in single threaded programs, and its not stressed in the
apps I've used it it.

As to whether its thread-safe, from src/lib/libc/net/getaddrinfo.c:

" Issues to be discussed:
  - Thread safe-ness must be checked."

 [snip]

" Note:
  - We use getipnodebyname() just for thread-safeness. There's no intent
    to let it do PF_UNSPEC (actually we never pass PF_UNSPEC to
    getipnodebyname()."
