Well, after I wrote this, I updated the sources again, which got some
pccardc changes.  Now I get "driver allocation failed" from pccardd,
with an error I can't remember offhand (something like "invalid operation
for device", but I know that's not it).

The odd thing is that going back to the old kernel fixes it.

I'll do some more digging tonight.
