You've enabled CHAP in your configuration (via 'set link enable
chap', note, not the same thing as 'set link allow chap' which you
probably *do* want), and the remote side doesn't want to do that.

Add "set link disable chap pap" to your mpd.conf so that you're no
longer requiring the remote side to authenticate itself to you.
