Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am writing to ask your help with a web based email administration
program.

This small C CGI program that updates /etc/aliases and then runs
"newaliases" that no longer works on FreeBSD 4.0-RELEASE (but works
fine with 3.2-RELEASE and 2.2.8-RELEASE)

The program is suid root; it fails with "Permission denied" and
sendmail (8.9.3) logs

"uid non_0 tried to update alias map"

Your advice or comment is most welcome.

I have tried unsuccessfully some suggestions about a similar thread on
Questions to

. execute sendmail directly (bypassing the symlink to mailwrapper)
. making mailwrapper suid root

I can't get *any* suid program that forks and execs newaliases to
work; would dispensing with mailwrapper help ?

Thank you.

Yours sincerely,

S Hopcroft
