freebsd 4.3-stable
touchpad ps/2 mouse
moused is running
sysmouse used in X86Free

after using my mouse for a while (any time between 1 and 10 min), it
freaks out.. jumps wildly and cust and pastes and open windows... all
kinds of weird things.

i think the problem is the power managemnt chip.
here is why... when i run rh 7.1 linux i dont have this problem, but i
do have a time when the machine seems to lockup the mouse, during this
time it seems that the power managment gets an update. this update hangs
the mouse for about 10-15 sec, then all is normal.

during booting freebsd 4.3-stable, i get a dmesg about 'chip1:' Intel
(some chip number) Power Management... on irq 0 or 1. this comes up just
before the floppy drive probe. sorry for not having the exact message. i
dont get a apm0 device configured.

i have tried enabling and disabling power management and recompiled a
new kernel and turned on apm in rc.conf. no effect either way.

what device is 'chip1:'???? how can i disable the probe for power
management?

any other thoughts would be appreciated.

thanks
john baxter
