When our config had the right cable backwards, the Promise on-board setup ROM showed both drives' model numbers and both as UDMA6, so we assumed the cable was correctly installed, FreeBSD installed and ran correctly, etc, etc. It took us while to give up and pull the box out the rack and look inside.
