15 minutes looks like a lot of time. Usually the boot process
is started within seconds, and it should take one (!) minute
at maximum.

USB sticks can be used for _anything_ (mostly).

You haven't even successfully installed FreeBSD. How do you
expect it to play video in a web browser? ;-)

After you have successfully installed and booted FreeBSD,
install the window manager and browsers that you like. Add
browser plugins if neccessary (even though today's Firefox
and Chrome should do most things out of the box). Check
if you've _really_ created the USB boot media as needed.
Make sure no strange "boot code remains" are left on it
that prevent a successful boot of FreeBSD. Keep in mind
you could also easily create a boot CD or DVD and start
the installation with that kind of media - just in case.
