Aaron,

Did you mean no BIOS settings at all, or no BIOS settings regarding 
suspend/sleep?  My ancient Acer (ca. 1994) had this stuff in the Phoenix 
BIOS setup.

Does that machine have Win9x on it?  It may be that you can/need to tweak 
these settings in the Control Panel.
