What do you mean?  Seems like multiple slashes just get condensed into
one...  at least on my machine:

philip@teak:~% cd //
philip@teak:/% pwd
/
philip@teak:/% cd /usr//local
philip@teak:/usr/local% pwd
/usr/local

Does it do something different on yours?
